As we begin this Fall 2020 semester and as we take a more active role in various classrooms throughout the state of New Jersey, what are some of your concerns? What are some of your goals for this semester? What do you feel is your greatest strength as you assist your cooperating teacher during this period of Coronavirus and distance learning?
As I take a more active role in a kindergarten classroom this semester I have some concerns of how the semester will go with all the new Covid-19 protocols in the elementary schools. In the beginning, of this school year I will go to the school with my cooperating teacher. However, the students will be learning remotely from home. With this procedure in place I am a little nervous that I will not get to know the students as well I would have if they were in the classroom. Even though I am a little nervous about connecting with the students remotely, I think my greatest strength that will assist me and my cooperating teacher during this time is that her and I have a great relationship. I have known my cooperating teacher my whole life because she was my kindergarten teacher and I have gone to visit her throughout the years. My main goal I have for this semester is that I want to be the most helpful I can possibly be for my cooperating teacher. I want to be available to help her out in anyway because I know this is a very difficult time for classrooms teachers.
ReplyDeleteAs I begin to take a more active role in the third grade classroom I am observing/student teaching in this semester I worry about how Covid-19 will affect the student's learning. Being that the school I am attending is following a hybrid schedule and gave students the option to learn completely remotely, I worry that those students who chose to learn completely remotely will have a harder time retaining and grasping the information they are taught. I feel that the students who do come to the school will be at more of an advantage, because I feel that students learn better in person than they do over the computer. I am also worried I will not be able to form a bond with the students as well as I normally would if they were all in the classroom. I hope that they see me as another teacher in the classroom and ask me questions and want my help. This semester I am hoping to take an active role within the classroom I observe/student teach in. My cooperating teacher and I discussed the fact that I should be more of a co-teacher in the room and be able to give my input on lesson plans and activity ideas. I would like to develop a close relationship with my cooperating teacher this semester and hope that I am more of a benefit to her classroom, rather than a hindrance. I think my greatest strengths that I have to offer my cooperating teacher are that I am extremely organized, and love working hands-on with the students without being told to beforehand. I enjoy assisting students with their assignments, whether it be one-on-one or in small groups. I am hoping that I am able to learn a lot this semester in terms of how to be a better teacher and how to adapt lessons during this difficult time.
