Anagabriella has some questions

Now with the semester ending, what do you feel was your biggest

challenge this semester while dealing with online learning? Were

their any challenges shared by both you and your cooperating teacher?

How did the hybrid structure work for you? What are you most excited about

when you think of student teaching next semester?   Do you feel your comfort

level with regard to online learning has changed from the beginning of the

semester to now?

  1. I feel like the biggest challenge for me was managing my observation hours with my other major alongside working and still participating in my volunteer organization. My teacher echoes this difficulty in balancing personal life with work life. Her troubles were with her family and her kids having learning disabilities was hard since she isn't able to help them since she had to be at school. I really liked the hybrid model. I teach a lot better using technology anyway so I didn't find too much of a struggle as I believe myself to be a very techy person. I'm excited to see my students everyday because I love getting to know them and hearing about their life.

  2. The biggest challenge I faced this semester was establishing a routine. I feel this semester I was constantly changing my routine, whereas in previous semesters I did not have constantly change my schedule. Balancing two jobs, classes, and observation hours definitely kept me busy and some weeks were harder than others. My cooperating teacher's biggest challenge would be making sure all of our students are meeting milestones in their learning. She is concerned with students not knowing their sight words even though they have been learning them since the beginning of the year. She feels that the entire class is behind in this are because their isn't an established routine. Therefore, the hybrid routine may not be working as well as we thought. I am really excited for student teaching and thinking about the positives rather than the negative circumstances.

  3. I think the biggest challenge I faced this semester was being able to juggle my class and babysitting schedule with observations and the schedule that my observation school follows. It was definitely a struggle for me in the beginning, trying to figure out when I was able to go in to observe and if I would be able to get my hours done on time. I think the biggest challenge both my cooperating teacher and I faced was whether or not the students were grasping the information taught, especially being remote and so young. (Luckily, we have a great group of kids and for the most part, are grasping everything). I am extremely excited for student teaching next semester. Regardless of if my district will be remote, hybrid, or possibly full in person, I am very excited for what is to come next semester. I love the grade I am in, my cooperating teacher, and the students I have. I wouldn't want it any other way!

  4. I feel like my biggest challenge this semester was juggling the work my professors assigned, working, and going to observation hours. I felt like this semester was the hardest when it comes to work load. I would say between my cooperating teacher and myself our biggest challenge was making sure the students are understanding the lessons we are teaching given the shorten time. I think the hybrid structure is working in our class. We are able to teach to both the in class students and remote students at the same time, which is great! The remote students get to feel like they are apart of the class while the in class learners are getting the structure they need. I am looking forward to really taking over next semester. I really enjoy my students and they are super eager to learn so I think it will be a great experience.

  5. I think that my biggest challenge this semester was adjusting to a new routine. All of my observations are virtual so at first it was difficult to build connections with my students. I think that my cooperating teacher felt the same way. Something that we did to make our class feel closer to one another was to do story time every morning: each student had the opportunity to tell us something that they wanted to share which really helped all of us learn more about one another. I also think that a big struggle for my district is that we do not have breakout rooms as an add on for google classroom. The district will not pay for it so we are not able to "divide and conquer" during a lesson, which would have been very helpful. Instead, my cooperating teacher and I have to take turns answering questions one by one. This is very time consuming and makes it difficult for us to not step on each others toes. Personally this semester it has been a major adjustment being able to manage the workload for me. Not only are we observing this semester but we have been given much more work due to being remote. I think that if school continues this way there has to be some adjustments made to help the students of Caldwell University adapt better to this new setting.

  6. I think my biggest challenge this semester was balancing my work recieved this semester with my observation hours as well as establishing a routine. I am so glad to say that I am finished with all of my hours for the semester this Friday. I was lucky enough to squeak by with observing all in person because my school is now thinking about going virtual until January. I am nervous however, that I will have to student teach virtually and I am not accustomed to this type of setting. I felt it was hard enough going to school as a student virtually and I can only imagine how hard it is for the teachers. I am excited for my students to really get to know me as a teacher and I am just excited to go back and see how much they have grown in the two months that I won't see them.

  7. Dennis Martin: I think my biggest challenge this semester would be in agreement with Faith D'Angelis. I know that I struggled this semester with balancing my work load from my six classes and getting as much hours out of each day I could for my log. I am definitely going to need more time after the semester ends to make up hours, meaning I will have to take an incomplete grade for the time being. I have had anxiety attacks and I now have a therapist I meet with because I was not allowing myself to take a break, like a good mental break on everything that was going on, with the addition that my dad got COVID-19 on the first weekend of November. In terms of my hours, we have been all virtual, but the plan is for the teachers to teach from the school building starting January 19. Honestly, I am excited about this different direction because I feel like I will have a greater sense of responsibility knowing my cooperating teacher and I are in the building despite that the students will not be. I am nervous just about edTPA because I will have to write about this experience I am not fairly used to yet, but I am sure I am not the only one who feels that sentiment. I think overall, my level of comfort with the online learning has grown a bit between the first day observing to now. Thankfully, I have access to resources with the help of my cooperating teacher and I can now say I have taught both a successful science and social studies virtually. Still getting used to it, and it is not my preferred way of teaching, but I digress.

  8. Kayla Sanderson : I think my biggest challenge dealing with online learning was making sure that all of the students are understanding what is being taught. It is very difficult to asses children's understanding of a lesson when we are not sure if they are being told answers from someone on the other side of the room. I think the hybrid structure was very difficult for me and my cooperating teacher because it is difficult to keep both groups on the same lessons because every student learns differently and one group may be able to move on and the other may need to be retaught the lesson.
